LiveScan FAQs:

What is LiveScan?

LiveScan is a system of fingerprint background checks that is governed by California state law, specifically under the California Department of Justice (DOJ). It is not a federal law, although it may involve federal databases such as the FBI’s criminal history system as part of background checks.

The law governing LiveScan is part of California’s broader legal framework for ensuring public safety, primarily under the California Penal Code (specifically sections related to background checks and criminal record access). For certain professions and organizations, such as schools, healthcare providers, and law enforcement, LiveScan is a requirement under California law.

Why do I have to get a LiveScan for AYSO, when I got it for another organization?

Each organization requires its own LiveScan because:

  1. Privacy laws: California privacy laws mandate that personal information, including background check data, cannot be shared across organizations. Each organization must apply for its own LiveScan clearance.

  2. Specificity of checks: Different organizations may have different statutory or regulatory requirements for what they need to review. For example, a school might look for offenses related to child welfare, while a financial institution may focus on financial crimes.

  3. Purpose limitation: When your fingerprints are submitted through LiveScan, they are associated with a specific job or role. Each role or position requires a separate check to comply with the legal and privacy regulations governing the different organizations.

Do I have to go to One Stop Travel?

No, you can go to any LiveScan location. If you go to OneStop we will pay for your LiveScan directly with One Stop. If you go somewhere else, you will be required to pay a fee. We will reimburse you for this fee. See our forms page to request a reimbursement.

How long does it take to show up in inLeague?

Processing time starts after you submit the form in the final step above (uploading your Livescan info to this form). Once this is complete, we inform AYSO National of your ATI to request loading. Loading occurs weekly on Monday nights. It typically takes one to three weeks to process.
