Sunday Soccer: Skills Clinic + Goalkeeper Academy + Pickup Games

RSVP here so we know who is coming

AYSO Region 13 is happy to announce the return of Sunday Soccer.  This weekly event is meant to give players an extra chance to develop their skills and love for the game during the fall season.  Whether your player is looking to learn new skills, get a little extra practice, get some targeted goalkeeper training, or just wants to play soccer with friends who didn’t end up on their fall team this year, we hope to see you out on the field on Sundays!  Sunday Soccer gives three different ways for your player(s) to participate: a Skills Clinic, Goalkeeper Academy, and Pickup Games.  Players may participate in any one of these, or even all three.

The event is included in the registration fee for all players in 8U or above and we are starting with a 3-week session to kick off the season.  If it’s a success, we’ll continue throughout the rest of the fall season — so help us spread the word to recruit players and volunteers.

Session 1 Details

Dates: Sundays, Sept 18, Sept 25, Oct 2
Time: 3:30-5:30pm (Check-in starting at 3:15.)
Location: Muir North (directions) What to bring: Cleats, shin guards, water, a ball, and goalie gloves (if you want them for the goalkeeper academy)

1. Skills Clinic

Skills Clinics will be run by professional coaches from Launch Sports and will last 1 hour for each age group.  Each age group will be broken up into smaller groups and players will be able to select groups with their friends as desired. We encourage players to join in pickup games and/or the goalkeeper academy before/after the skills clinic sessions.

— 8U & 10U & 12U Skills Clinic will be 3:30-4:30. Check-in at 3:15.
— 12U & 14U & 16U Skills Clinic will be 4:30-5:30.  Check-in at 4:15.

(12U players can participate at whichever time is more convenient for them.)

2. Goalkeeper Academy

The Goalkeeper Academy will be run by professional coaches from Launch Sports.  Small groups will be formed with players receiving targeted goalkeeping instruction for 30 mins, after which we hope players will join in pickup games and/or the skills clinic.

— 10U & 12U will be either 4:30-5:00 or 5:00-5:30. Check-in at 4:15. Players will be divided into groups at that point.
— 14U & 16U will be either 3:30-4:00 or 4:00-4:30. Check-in at 3:15. Players will be divided into groups at that point.

3. Pickup Games

Throughout the entire two-hour 3:30-5:30 period players can participate in small-sided pickup games.  Players can arrive/depart whenever they would like and parent volunteers will do their best to create a rotating series of small-sided games with players of similar skill levels throughout the period.

— All ages: 3:30-5:30 arrive whenever you’d like and play for as long as you’d like! Check-in upon arrival so that we know who has participated.

Parent Volunteering

AYSO depends on volunteers.  While we have professional coaches for the Skills Clinic and the Goalkeeper Academy, we need parent volunteers to help check in the players and to help coordinate the pickup games.  Please let us know if you are able to help with either/both.

If you have questions about the program, email Adam Wierman (adamw@ayso13.org).
