Walk-In Registration date for late registrations has been scheduled for Saturday, June 1, 2013

Due to number of emails requesting a late walk-in registration opportunity, one has been scheduled for the fall soccer season in AYSO Region 13 (Pasadena, Altadena, La Canada) for Saturday, June 1st from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Please pre-register at http://www.eAYSO.org.  If you have registered in the past, please use the same account (email address and password).

Important Information for Apple computer users.

   1. eAYSO is optimized for specific versions of Internet Explorer (7,8,9), Firefox (3,3.5,3.6), Safari (4,5) and Google Chrome (20, 21, 22). See eAYSO website for details and any known issues such as printing Player and Volunteer applications with certain Web browsers. 
    2. Disable all Web browser pop-up blockers when visiting eAYSO.   See eAYSO for details and any known issues such as printing Player and Volunteer applications with certain Web browsers.

Registering to play in Region 13 is a two-step process:

1.     Pre-register your child as a player at http://www.eAYSO.org. Print 1 copy of each player form.  When you volunteer as a coach, referee, or team manager, each, and every year, you must pre-register yourself as a volunteer. Print 1 copy of each volunteer form.  Player Forms and Volunteer Forms are 2 pages (the second page is a disclaimer and Electronic Signature Process Record); make sure to print both pages.

2.     Please bring your printed forms and registration fees to our Clubhouse located at 711 W. Woodbury Rd, unit E. Altadena, CA. 91001 on the scheduled late walk-in registration session to be held on June 1. The hours of the walk-in session are 9:00 am – 1:00 pm. 

Those who did not complete their registrations by May 11 may be put on a waiting list to be placed on a team only to the extent that space is available.

Registration fee discounts ended with the May 11th registration.

Late Registration: after May 11: $150 per player (no discount for additional siblings)

VIP registration fee is $35 for each player regardless of when the player is registered.

Remember to print and bring 1 copy of each player form and print and bring 1 copy of each volunteer form.

If you do not have Internet access at home or work, try your local public library, or a FedEx Office or other business that allows you to rent Internet access. We will have a limited number of computers with Internet access available at the Clubhouse on our walk-in registration days, but the demand for these computers is high; if you can print your forms ahead of time, you will save time at registration.

eSignature is required for all player and volunteer registrations.  With eSignature, your name is printed on the signature line of your form and a “wet” signature is not required.

Parking at FIS, Cornishon and Lanterman

All Coaches, Referees, and Parents,

Parking for games/practices at FIS and Cornishon. Permits for AYSO to use these fields are difficult to obtain and keep. Please be considerate of the School and Community Center property.

For all games and practices please do not park in front of or near the Community Center.

For all games and practices at FC FIS Lower, please park on Cornishon only.

For all games and practices at FC FIS Upper, please park on Chevy Chase or in the parking lot off of Chevy Chase but only in the spots away from the Community Center. Please do not park in front of or near the Community Center. People using the Community Center need access and AYSO needs to keep this area available for their use.

Coaches, please remind all parents to leave the area as clean as, or cleaner than, when they arrived. Do not leave trash or empty plastic bottles at the fields or in the parking lot.

Permits for these fields are difficult to obtain and keep. Please be considerate of the School and Community Center property.

Inclement Weather and Field Closures

In case of inclement weather, the best source of information is our Email Alert system. When we close fields, we send an Email Alert and post the announcement on our home page.

To subscribe to the Email Alert system, click on the link in the upper right of our home page.

We post decisions about field closures as early as possible, and we certainly try to have decisions on practice nights by 4:00pm and on game days by 7:30am. Sometimes the announcement may come later, especially on game days.

In the event that a cancellation has not been announced, you can assume the field is open. Nevertheless, a coach’s primary concern is the safety of his players, and another important concern is preserving the field, so, a coach should cancel practice if conditions are detrimental to the players or the field. Referees are responsible for this decision at games.

Please do not contact board members or coaches to find out if practices or games are cancelled. If you are subscribed to Email Alerts, Facebook and Twitter, you will be the first to know.

Concussions – Region 13 Adopts AYSO National Policy

The AYSO Safe Haven and Safety Director programs have been promoting since 2009 the recommendations provided by the U.S. Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) Heads Up program for concussion awareness and safety. Since then, 35 states plus the District of Columbia have passed concussion legislation, most of which came onto the books within the last year. Other states have similar laws pending.

In response to increasing concerns about the potential risks associated with concussions and to these new state laws, the AYSO National Board of Directors launched a Concussion Task Force to develop recommendations for AYSO Regions and families. The NBOD has approved its recommendations:

  • Use of the AYSO/CDC Concussion Information Sheet to inform all parents and players about the signs and symptoms of concussion and the associated risks. Find the Information Sheet at: http://www.ayso.org/resources/safety.aspx
  • ALL coaches, referees, and Section, Area and Region Board Members are to take the free online Concussion Awareness Training.

  • Go to http://www.aysotraining.org/

    1. Enter your AYSO ID and last name.
    2. Under the “AYSO’S SAFE HAVEN”, Click on “START NOW”
    3. Under “Safe Haven”, click on “CDC Concussion Awareness Training”

     After you complete the course, double check that the certification is reflected on your eAYSO record. To do so, log in to your account at www.eayso.org and click on “View certification.

  • Any player suspected by the coach, referee or parent to have a concussion must be removed from further participation for at least the remainder of the day, and
  • Parents should be encouraged to seek professional medical treatment at the time of injury and secure medical clearance before being allowed to return to play. In all cases, AYSO will require the parent to sign a new Participation Release Form which includes a concussion waiver confirming that the player has been given the appropriate clearance to return to play.

Here are a few of the helpful Steps/Measures to remember relating to concussion awareness and safety issues:

  • Coaches are required to complete an AYSO Incident Report whenever a concussion has been suspected and turn it into the Safety Director.
  • The Safety Director must forward a copy of the AYSO Incident Report to insurance@ayso.org and make sure the injured player’s parents are informed about AYSO’s Soccer Accident Insurance.
  • Coaches must require a signed Participation Release Form from the parent/guardian before a player having a concussion or suspected of having a concussion is allowed to return to play. Parents should always be encouraged to seek appropriate medical care and medical clearance. The signed Medical Release is also mandatory before return to play.
  • The signed Participation Release and any Medical Release must be given to the Safety Director and forwarded to insurance@ayso.org.

Sideline Etiquette

AYSO strives to create a healthy environment for our children and our community. One of the ways we do this is by maintaining a high standard of conduct at our games:

  • Negative comments and complaints about officiating are prohibited.
  • In Region 13, the home team always occupies the north or west sideline. This rule applies regardless of sun, shade or other conditions.
    • Spectators must sit on their team's sideline.
    • No spectators are allowed behind the goal line.
  • Coaches must remain in "the technical area" (on the sideline, within 10 yards of the halfway line). Since the technical area is not painted on Region 13 fields, coaches must go no further from the halfway line than the edge of the center circle.
    • Exceptions: U6, U7, and U8 coaches are allowed along the entire sideline.
  • Only coaches may “coach” (i.e., instruct and direct the players). Others on the sideline should cheer and encourage, but should never coach.
  • Coach participation in matches is limited to comments that are positive, instructional, or encouraging.
  • A coach should never speak to opposing players except to compliment them on their play.
  • Coaches are not entitled to question the referee's calls or ask for explanations during a match.
  • Coaches are not permitted on the field unless specifically invited by the referee (e.g., even if there is an injury, the coach must be invited by the referee before entering the field).
    • Exceptions:
      • U7 Coaches are permitted on the field for September games.
      • U6 Coaches are permitted on the field throughout the season.
  • Alcohol and tobacco products are prohibited at AYSO games and practices, and in the immediate vicinity of AYSO fields.
  • AYSO games (and practices) require a certified, currently registered AYSO coach.
  • AYSO scheduled games require a certified, currently registered AYSO referee. If there is no referee, there can be no game, but the teams may still scrimmage.

Attention all Coaches, Referees and Team Managers – Continuing Volunteer Registrations and New Volunteer Registrations Are Due

Every year, ALL volunteers are required register as a Volunteer. Even if you have registered in the past, registration is required every year to ensure you are covered under AYS’s insurance.

When you volunteer as a Coach, Referee, or Team Manager, you must register or re-register as a volunteer every year regardless of how long you have been a volunteer.

To complete your Volunteer Registration or Re-Registration,

  1. Log into the eayso website at https://www.eayso.org
  2. Under “Adults wanting to volunteer”,
  3. Select one of the following that is appropriate for you…
    • Apply as a New Adult Volunteer
    • Apply as a Continuing Adult Volunteer
    • Apply as a New Youth Volunteer
    • Apply as a Continuing Youth Volunteer
  4. We are using eSignature: with eSignature, your name is printed on the signature line of your form and a “wet” signature is not required.
  5. Print 1 copy of each volunteer form and mail with a photo copy of your driver’s license to:

Once your volunteer form has been processed we will complete your registration and you will be able to electronically pre-register for any training classes through eayso.

Coaches – Please take the Coach classes at your first opportunity; you must be certified for the level you wish to Coach.

After you have been registered as a volunteer, you may complete the coach application and send to Frank Bigelow at ftbigelow@earthlink.net.

Referees – Please take the Referee Training at your first opportunity; you must be certified for the level you wish to Referee.
