MST & ALL-STAR TRYOUT SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED (For U10, U12 & U14 Divisions Only)

Tryouts for Region 13’s Annual Myles Standish Thanksgiving (MST) Tournament and for the 2014 – 15 All-Star Season start next Sunday, October 19, 2014.  The Tryouts are open to ALL players in the U10, U12 & U14 Divisions who wish to be considered for Region 13’s MST Teams and/or for Region 13’s All-Star Teams.

Myles Standish Tournament (“MST”) – The MST is a 3 day Tournament on Friday, Saturday & Sunday of Thanksgiving Weekend, typically involving 5 games.  The MST is open to AYSO teams from other Regions, and draws teams from throughout Southern California. All games are held in Pasadena.  Region 13 will be forming from 1 to 4 teams in each Division:  BU10, GU10, BU12, GU12, BU14 & GU14.  Teams are very selective and the level of play in the Tournament is higher than in the regular Fall Season.

All-Star Program – The All-Star Program is held during January & February, with three (3) levels of competition involving games against the other 8 Regions in Area 1C.  Games are played on both Saturdays & Sundays throughout Area 1C so some local travel (for example Alhambra, Arcadia, Glendale) is required.  Region 13 will be forming teams in U10, U12 and U14.  All-Star Teams are also very selective.  The fact that a particular player is chosen for a MST team does not mean that they will be chosen for the same level (or even any) All-Star team, as the teams are re-formed in early December.

Eligibility – In order to be eligible to play on either a MST team or an All-Star team:  the player must be registered in Region 13 for the Fall 2014 season and have played in at least one –half (50%) of his or her team’s regularly scheduled Fall Season games.   The player must also have attended at least one (1) of the three (3) scheduled Tryouts.  DO NOT WAIT FOR THE THIRD & FINAL TRYOUT AS IT MIGHT BE RAINED OUT OR OTHERWISE CANCELLED.  The more Tryouts a player attends, the more likely he or she is to be selected.

Costs & Volunteers – The MST will cost about $40 per player, plus additional fees to cover the uniform deposit and referee deposit. In addition, each team is required to provide a 3-person referee team. All families participating in the tournament will be required to volunteer a few hours to help the region run the tournament.

There will be an All-Stars participation fee of about $125.  Each All-Star Team is also required to provide two (2) qualified Referees, so volunteerism can factor into selection.
