In recent months, the national media has focused on the negative, even violent, behavior of players, coaches and parents involved in youth sports. In a proactive effort to counteract this trend, AYSO has initiated a program called kids zone. Region 13 is proud to endorse and participate in this worthwhile program.
kids zone is an answer for players and concerned sideliners alike. It may not resolve the whole problem of negative parental behavior, but it’s a good beginning and it’s been AYSO-tested. It works. kids zone will help educate our parents and it will let everyone know that there is an acceptable standard for proper behavior.
kids zone is an educational program with three major components:
This is a pin-on badge bearing the program’s logo. This will be worn by program supporters at games and will serve as a reminder of the importance of positive sideline behavior.
A large sideline sign which lists positive behavior standards will be posted at game fields. Parents and spectators who will abide by these standards are welcome – others are not.
We will request parents to sign a pledge that holds them to the kids zone standards. Click here to see a copy.
As part of the kids zone progam, we’ve put together some helpful suggestions for being supportive AYSO parents.
Your comments about this program are welcome. Let a member of the Board of Directors know when you see them or send us email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
